Forming Fabric / Forming Wire

The forming fabric or "wire" of a paper machine is the continuous belt or belts of the mesh screen upon which the paper sheet is formed. Most modern forming fabrics are no longer comprised of metal wires. Rather, they are comprised of polyester monofilament. The weave pattern and layering of a forming fabric is designed to meet stringent requirements of dimensional stability, resistance to abrasion (on the wire side), minimum resistance to drainage, minimum wire mark, and (sometimes) maximization of retention of fiber fines. Traditional Fourdrinier paper machines have a single wire. Modified Fourdriniers and gap formers can have two.

Forming fabric is very important for a paper machine in a paper mill. In the general formation of paper depends on wire cloth and the refining of paper pulp. Paper machine wire cloth (forming fabric) made from polyester or polyamide monofilaments. To shape an uninterrupted belt, it is made by endless a seam. During the weaving of forming fabric, filaments are composed of the paper machine direction and paper machine cross direction. The filaments of paper machine direction or lengthwise are called warp. On the other hand, the filaments of paper machine cross direction are called weft Shute, or filling. The construction of wire cloth depends on some weaving variables such as pattern, mesh, yarn, diameter, degree of crimping, etc. Mesh is very important for a wire cloth (forming fabric). Water drainage and retention of fibers depend on it.

4-shed single layer forming fabric is a standard type of polyester forming fabric in paper making, mainly used for producing cultural paper printing paper, packing paper and so on.
5-shed single layer forming fabric is suitable for making healthy, culture and packing papers, etc.
8-shed single layer forming fabric is the most wear-resisting one in the single-layer screen, which has long performance life, but mesh print is relatively deep. It is mainly used for copying papermaking bags, craft paper, cardboard, corrugated paper, and so on.
7-shed double layer forming fabric is suitable for quality printing paper and tissue paper etc.
8-shed double layer forming fabric is suitable for quality printing paper, tissue paper, and the surface pulp and inner pulp of the board paper, etc.
8-shed, 16-shed double a half layer forming fabric is suitable for making quality printing paper, tissue paper and surface pulp, inner pulp and base pulp of the board paper, etc.

How to Install Forming fabric
1. Before installing the forming wire, kindly check the equipment if it is in good condition, the surface of wires should be forbidden from unevenness, slanting, burr, sand, etc.

2. The running direction must be in accordance with the direction of the arrow on the wire, the wire should be placed in the correct position, and the rollers should be paralleled with each other to prevent the wires from being deflected.

3. There should be a swinging high-pressure water device that used to wash wire. Water pressure is not lower than 6-10 kg/cm² for the medium and low-speed paper machine; speed more than 350m/min, water pressure is not lower than 10-15 kg/cm²; When using multi-layer forming wire, water pressure is not lower than 15-30 kg/cm², meanwhile water should be clean and without sand.

4. When installing the forming wire, firstly let the wire be slightly tensioned, add water to lubricate the operation, adjust the tension to normal after sizing, keep the tension of the low-speed paper machine at 3-4 kg/cm², and high speed one at 4-6 kg/cm².
